All Police Jobs collects huge amount of traffic data, counting every click on every job listed in UK policing over the last couple of decades. It enables us to compare like for like across periods of time, and an interesting stat jumped out when we looked at the traffic for the first 4 months of 2026.
It seems that serving officers are looking for more senior roles more than ever before.
We compared the number of jobs and the traffic on them for all vacancies for Sergeants, Inspectors, Superintendents and Chief Officer roles, comparing 1st Jan 2026 – April 30th 2026 with the corresponding dates last year.
And whilst the number of vacancies remained broadly similar, the interest was markedly larger this year.

Clicks on Chief Officer roles grew by over 50% per job, and Superintendent roles by nearly 60%. Both Inspectors and Sergeants also saw substantial increases.
Possible reasons are that we are seeing an increase in the throughfare of graduate / fast track officers. Or the pay differential being increasingly attractive? Or it may be simply the effect of uplift, meaning there are now more people in policing, and so as a result more people looking to move up?
But what it does suggest is that now is a good time for recruiters to fill those senior positions, as there is currently an increased number of officers looking for their next step up in their policing career.
