Tech Support: the hardest police job to fill?
As police recruitment trends ebb and flow, All Police Jobs keeps a close eye on hard-to-fill roles. We regularly work with police forces to try and help with these positions, with one area arising more than most: Tech Support.
Why Tech Support?
Tech Support roles aren’t normally associated with policing and, therefore, skilled candidates in this area don't necessarily consider visiting a police force’s recruitment site. We quickly recognised that reaching an interested audience was an issue for us too, as a specialist police jobs board. But we love a challenge!
How did All Police Jobs respond?
We instigated a range of behind the scenes innovations to try and target candidates outside of our police-focused audience. We added AI friendly page markers to attract job seekers in different industries, used targeted google adverts to reach people searching for jobs using specific keywords and ensured our job domains were easily found on search engines.
What were the results?
To track our progress, we pulled out the annual figures for the last three years for all jobs within the Tech Support category.
In July ‘23 - June ’24, we listed 928 different Tech Support. These were clicked on a total of 68,265 times. An average of 74 clicks per job.
July ‘24 - June ‘25 saw 837 jobs listed, with 71,415 clicks, so an average of 85 clicks per job
During the period of July ‘25 - June ‘26, 720 jobs were listed, and a total of 102,069 users clicked on the jobs. This gave us an average of 142 clicks per job, nearly double the figure of two years previously.
We still have a way to go before each vacancy is visited 500 plus times, like the ever-popular Superintendent and Scientific Support roles. But we are pleased to see things moving in the right direction and even more delighted that forces are telling us their applications in this area have increased.
If your hard-to-fill role needs a little extra attention, consider using one of our Google Ad Boosters, available to subscribing forces. Contact us at adminsupport@chestnutmedia.co.uk.
