We are looking for an experienced and credible Fleet Manager to provide strong operational leadership across the Chiltern Transport Consortium (CTC) fleet and workshops, supporting five police forces and a highly complex, high‑demand operational environment.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for workshop performance, fleet availability, and delivery through managers, ensuring that services are efficient, compliant, proactive and focused on supporting frontline policing.
What you’ll be responsible for
As Fleet Manager, you will:
- Provide visible, effective leadership across CTC workshops and fleet support functions, setting clear expectations, standards and accountability.
- Lead and hold managers to account for workshop performance, productivity, compliance, quality of work and operational availability.
- Drive a proactive approach to fleet and workshop management, anticipating issues, reducing reactive activity and improving planning, maintenance and availability.
- Ensure consistent standards of service delivery across multiple sites, balancing operational demand, value for money and legislative compliance.
- Work closely with the Fleet Services & Logistics Manager to use data, trend analysis and performance insight to inform fleet decisions, vehicle selection and service improvement.
- Lead managers through change, continuous improvement and performance challenges, addressing under‑performance and building capability and resilience.
- Manage fleet procurement, commissioning, lifecycle planning and supplier performance within agreed frameworks and governance.
- Support the Head of CTC with budget management, forecasting and reporting, ensuring robust control and value for money.
- Represent CTC professionally with member forces, suppliers and external partners, including at regional and national forums.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a leader who:
- Has demonstrable experience leading operational teams and managers, ideally in a fleet, engineering, transport or similarly complex service environment.
- Is confident holding others to account for performance and standards, while developing people and building strong management teams.
- Understands the importance of workshops and technical services in delivering operational availability.
- Can move an organisation from reactive to planned and proactive delivery, using performance information and insight.
- Is comfortable working across multiple locations, stakeholders and priorities.
- Brings strong judgement, credibility and resilience in a demanding operational setting.
Technical fleet or engineering knowledge is important, but this role is first and foremost about leadership, delivery and performance through others.
Why join CTC?
CTC operates one of the largest and most complex police fleets in the UK. This role offers the opportunity to:
- Lead services that directly support frontline policing
- Shape workshop performance and fleet delivery at scale
- Work in a collaborative, multi‑force environment
- Make a tangible difference to efficiency, availability and value for money
