Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is recognised as the fastest improving force in the country. We are committed to reaching our aim of becoming the best we can be for the people of Greater Manchester. We are a force for good that is actively preventing crime, keeping people safe, and protecting victims by being proactive in fighting crime and working closely alongside local communities and partners to solve problems that matter most to our neighbourhoods.
We are looking for creative, proactive, and strategic candidates to lead our fast-paced and dynamic Media Office which is one of the busiest in the country. You will be responsible for helping to build public trust and confidence by working with officers, staff, and the media to tell the story of how GMP is protecting communities, solving crime, and supporting victims.
The ideal Team Leader will have a positive, proactive, and a can-do attitude. They will be able to demonstrate that they have the skills to lead the team in delivering a fast-paced and engaging news service on behalf of GMP, a keen awareness of the news agenda and identifying potential organisational risks, coming up with new and innovative ideas for engaging with our audiences, whilst also providing sound and rational media advice to senior officers.
Working for the Media Office, you will have a key role in helping to catch criminals by providing advice and publicising appeals for information, help communities feel safer by creating engaging content about the work of local police teams, and inform the public about key incidents and investigations that are of high local and national significance.
As part of the second biggest police force in the country, you will tell the story of how GMP’s work positively impacts the 2.8million people we serve, and how we are leading the way in key priority areas such as our victim-centred approach to protecting children, our problem-solving neighbourhood policing, and our proactive fight against organised crime.
You will facilitate local and national media opportunities on exciting policing operations, from serious crime investigations and award-winning documentaries, to large-scale music and sporting events. You will assist with the team’s responsibility of providing communications for the North West Counter Terrorism Police, including in major incidents.
Successful candidates will be expected to work from Force Headquarters on a shift pattern of: 6.30am-2.30pm, 8am-4pm, 10am-6pm and 11am-7pm. You will also, as part of a rota, provide an out-of-hours on-call service for the force.
We are proud to serve 2.8 million people across our 10 towns, cities, and districts. We are part of a vibrant and diverse region within the Northwest, and we are committed to ensure that our workforce is reflective of the communities we serve. We know that having a diverse workforce is key to helping us engage with all of our communities, so we encourage and welcome applications from all.
