Prosecution Team Officer
Salary: Scale 5 – £30,333 - £31,749 per annum
Contract: Various full-time permanent positions throughout Bradford, Leeds, Calderdale and Kirklees
Location: Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees

This vital position sits within West Yorkshire Police’s Criminal Justice, Prosecution Team, supporting investigations and helping to deliver fair, timely and effective justice for victims, witnesses, and communities.
We’re seeking an organised, detail focused and motivated individual who can work effectively both independently and within a fast moving team.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in file preparation, disclosure, and criminal justice processes while contributing to meaningful work that supports frontline policing and the wider justice system.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Prosecution Team Officer, you will help ensure the accurate, efficient and lawful progression of criminal investigations by preparing case files, managing evidence and unused material, and ensuring all work complies with national standards and legislation.
Key duties include:
• Preparing and submitting evidential case files for Magistrates’ and Crown Court proceedings, ensuring compliance with national file standards, Criminal Procedure Rules and Director’s Guidance
• Acting as a Disclosure Officer, reviewing, assessing and scheduling all relevant unused material in line with CPIA, Attorney General’s Guidelines, case law and other relevant legislation
• Identifying further investigative opportunities and ensuring these are communicated to the Officer in Case (OIC)
• Creating, producing and exhibiting case material for trial within mandated timescales, including appropriate redaction and continuity documentation
• Obtaining accurate witness and complainant statements using PEACE/PACE interviewing methods
• Managing communication between the Officer in Case, Crown Prosecution Service, Counsel, and other agencies to ensure timely progression of evidential and disclosure matters
• Attending court when required to give evidence relating to disclosure, evidential matters, or case progression
• Supporting Witness Care Officers in obtaining special measures applications, Victim Personal Statements, and facilitating victim and witness attendance at court

To succeed in this role, you will be expected to:
• Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, partner agencies, and members of the public
• Work confidently with force systems, documentation requirements, and disclosure processes
• Accurately interpret and apply legislation, national guidance and criminal justice procedures
• Prioritise and manage your workload to meet statutory and mandated deadlines
• Work independently and collaboratively within a busy Criminal Justice environment
• Handle sensitive, confidential or distressing material with professionalism, integrity and resilience
• Travel to other locations across West Yorkshire when required and work flexibly to suit operational needs
Essential Criteria
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and willingness to learn force IT systems
• Ability to successfully complete File Preparation and Disclosure training
• Basic knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and partner agencies (desirable but not essential)
• Evidence of strong customer service skills
• Flexibility to work hours that meet departmental needs
• Willingness and ability to travel for work purposes
• Ability to deal with material of an explicit or disturbing nature
• Full UK driving licence (desirable)
