Description:
Do you have what it takes to make sure crime does not pay? Are you looking for a rewarding and challenging role tackling serious and organised crime?
West Yorkshire Police’s Economic Crime Unit are seeking to appoint Financial Investigators. We are inviting applications from accredited and experienced Financial Investigators, though applications are welcome from candidates who are not yet accredited but possess the necessary attitude and skillset to complete the required training.
This is a demanding role. It is essential that you have a proactive attitude and excellent time management skills. You will investigate complex matters involving serious and organised crime and have conduct of a large and varied caseload. You will play a vital role in recovering the proceeds of crime using tools under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, including restraint, confiscation and civil asset recovery. You will also develop, assist and conduct investigations into money laundering offences.
You will work closely with partner agencies and attend court to give evidence. You will interview suspects and witnesses, conduct search warrants and identify opportunities to disrupt criminality by investigating financial lines of enquiry and confiscating criminals’ ill-gotten gains.
Once fully trained, you will be expected to be part of an ‘on call’ rota of Financial Investigators. The rota provides 24/7 cover to assist a wide range of ‘life at risk’ investigations (for additional recompense).
Experience investigating crimes involving the tracing, seizure and forfeiture of cryptocurrency would be an advantage, although training can be provided for candidates who have the necessary skills to learn.
Based at one of the force divisions within West Yorkshire (Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds or Wakefield), with allowances for agile working available, you will report into the Economic Crime Unit. You will be expected to attend for duty anywhere within West Yorkshire and be able to travel nationally or internationally when required.
This is a career progression role. At appointment you will receive training, attend courses and be allocated a mentor. Applicants who are already accredited Financial Investigators may be appointed at the top of the pay scales advertised, or somewhere in-between, based upon experience and qualifications.
Currently, candidates who meet the ‘Advanced’ grade criteria are also entitled to an additional £9,127 per annum Market Factor payment. The Market Factor payment is a temporary supplement that is not part of the contracted salary and will be reviewed by an independent panel in 2027.
This exciting role makes a key difference in disrupting serious and organised crime, tackling illicit finance and ensuring that crime does not pay.
Further information can be obtained from Financial Investigation Manager Tom Matthews via email tom.matthews@westyorkshire.police.uk
The application process will close at 23:55 hours on 09 November 2026.
