Witness Care Unit Supervisor - Police Staff

We currently have a vacancy for a full time Supervisor to join our team in the Witness Care Unit - part of the Criminal Justice Department of Nottinghamshire Police.

This role is office-based Monday through Friday in line with the force's Agile Working Policy.

The Witness Care Unit's day to day business is closely aligned with the court's operating times.  The unit deals with the full spectrum of criminal cases from shop thefts through to the most serious offences such as serious sexual assaults, domestic abuse matters and fatalities.

As Supervisor you will work alongside the existing full time Supervisor to co-manage a team of 16 Witness Care Officers  and 3 administrators leading their performance in line with the Victim's Code of Practice, compliance with Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme and manging timely provision of medical forensic evidence.

The role includes but is not limited to allocating new work and monitoring workloads to meet fluctuating demands on resources, performance and attendance management of staff, closely working with Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and His Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service (HMCTS) to ensure meaningful case progression of trials with a focus on Crown Court and Magistrates court matters, providing guidance to police officers and staff regarding criminal justice and the role of the Witness Care Unit, ensuring that staff understand changing legislation, policy and procedure across a complex Criminal Justice landscape.

The successful candidate will have highly developed written and verbal communication skills with a focus on detail, experience or knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, knowledge and understanding of the Victim's Code of Practice, the ability to make quick decisions in real time to accommodate HMCTS listing practices, changing trial requirements and issues arising from victims and witnesses who may be required to attend court, the ability to line manage staff and implement new working practices, the capacity to maintain professionalism and empathy while and working to strict deadlines. 

The ability to maintain a level of emotional detachment while providing a victim centered service is also key with a view to maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
