Job Role: Vehicle Body Builder

An exciting opportunity have arisen to join the Transport Department of West Yorkshire Police where an individual is required to join the Vehicle Preparation Unit (VPU) as a Vehicle Body Builder.
The successful candidate will be working within a team of highly skilled Auto Installation Technicians and existing Body Builders. The successful candidate must have the knowledge and capability to undertake the following key responsibilities:
• To build and commission a wide range of vehicles to a high standard which will be deployed for a multitude of usages within West Yorkshire Police.
• To commission vehicles to set specifications which are in line with legislation and regulations.
• Install a number of prefabricated items into vehicles such as cells, dog pods etc.
• Design and build bespoke installs for one off vehicles used within the force.
• Have knowledge of working with various materials like wood, metal, plastic and an advantage if you have glazing experience.
• Has relevant proven experience gained in a recognised motor vehicle environment
• Carry out repairs on vehicles that are required to be on the road the same day.
• Attend training courses for professional and personal development, both in house and at suppliers/manufacturers bases.
• Complete all approved Vehicle Fleet Management forms and miscellaneous paperwork in a precise and accurate manner.
• Work at alternative locations around the Force area when required by VPU Management.
• To removal all police equipment from vehicles for disposal.
• Work in and keep up to a tidy workplace.
The successful candidates must have a Level 3 City and Guilds/ Level 3 NVQ/ Level 3 Cert Tech in fabrication/coach building, joiner or equivalent and experience gained in a recognised motor vehicle environment would be an advantage.
Ideal candidates will have the potential to achieve industry standard performance requirements and be physically capable of undertaking the duties of the post.
It is essential that the successful candidates holds a full and current UK/European Driving Licence.
