Looking for a role where you can make a real impact supporting senior leaders across West Yorkshire Police?
We're looking for a highly organised and professional SLT Secretary to provide comprehensive and confidential secretarial support to our People Directorate Senior Leadership Team.
About the People Directorate
The People Directorate plays a key role in supporting our workforce and is made up of a variety of departments including:
- Human Resources (HR) – providing advice, guidance and support across the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to career development and retention
- Learning & Organisational Development (L&OD) – helping to develop the skills, knowledge and capabilities of our people through training, leadership development and organisational improvement initiatives
- Diversity, Equality & Inclusion (DEI) – promoting an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable insight into the work of the People Directorate and how the organisation supports the wellbeing, engagement and career development of both police officers and staff. It would be particularly beneficial for anyone considering a future career in Human Resources or broader people management and development roles.
Role and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing high-quality secretarial and administrative support to senior leaders, ensuring they are effectively supported across their wide-ranging responsibilities. This role requires excellent organisational skills, discretion, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Working in a fast-paced environment, you'll engage with colleagues, officers, partners and stakeholders at all levels, helping to maintain effective communication and ensuring business runs smoothly and efficiently.
Key duties include:
- Managing complex diaries, appointments and long-term commitments for District and Department Heads and Senior Leadership Teams
- Coordinating and organising meetings, visits, events and hospitality arrangements
- Preparing, formatting and distributing professional correspondence, reports and presentations
- Managing emails, mailboxes, telephone enquiries, visitors and incoming correspondence on behalf of senior leaders
- Handling confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Supporting internal and external recognition and awards processes, including event coordination and administration
- Maintaining records, management information and intranet content to support organisational communication and governance
- Coordinating travel arrangements, itineraries and accommodation bookings
- Supporting procurement and purchasing activities through Force financial systems
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to provide secretarial resilience and support across departments when required

Essential Criteria
- Previous secretarial experience
- Previous experience working within an office or administrative environment
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other computerised software packages
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and work with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience of diary management, mailbox management and forward planning
- Proficient typing skills with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable
- Knowledge of Police and Local Government procedures and processes
