Transferee - Police Constable - Tactical Dog Officer (Tactical Dog Unit), - Ref:1894152

The Specialist Operations Branch are currently recruiting for Police Constables within the Tactical Dog Unit – General Purpose Dog.

The role will involve:
• Assisting operational patrols wherever directed at a variety of incidents
• Public disorder
• Community events and possible media related work.
• Providing a pro-active policing capability to detect / prevent crime and support district priorities.
• Assisting in searches and tracking for suspects, missing persons and recovering property/items using the dogs search skills.
• Training and maintaining allocated police dogs to NCTAS guidelines.
• Adhere to Animal Welfare Act whilst caring for your dog(s) both on and off duty.
• Provide support and willing to deal with dangerous dogs.
• Provide support at policed events such as football matches, demonstrations etc.
• Participating in the promotion of the TDU to educate users in regards to the level of service available.
• Willingness and suitability to take a second dog / secondary specialism.
• Maintain mandatory training as an operational Police Officer.

The applicant must have suitable accommodation and transport and willing to take responsibility both on and off duty for an allocated dog(s).

You are required to have a suitable dwelling and a private garden which can provide suitable and secure outdoor space to house a double kennel (8ft x 8ft) and a vehicle suitably sized to fit a dog cage. The garden although size specific for the kennel must have secure fencing. As a dog handler you are expected to care for your dog on and off duty at your house. This requires regular suitable exercise throughout the day and night whilst balancing your personal life.
During your career with the Tactical Dog Unit you will be expected to further your skillset with a second specialism (Firearms Support Dog / Specialist Search Dog / Puppy for environmental and foundation training). You must be willing, and in a position to accept a second dog.
