Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering Counter Terrorism (CT) services to our regional forces as well as forming part of the national CT Network. CTPNW’s mission is to work together to keep people safe from terrorism.

We are looking for a committed and outstanding individual who can support CTPNW in achieving its mission.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Detective Sergeant within Counter Terrorism Policing North West’s Operations Intelligence Management Unit (OIMU) based at FHQ in Manchester.

The OIMU are a covert investigative unit who conduct covert national security investigations, focussing on operations with subjects who pose the greatest threat, risk and harm to Greater Manchester communities.

As a Detective Sergeant with the OIMU, you will manage one of three teams, which comprise of police officers and civilian staff investigators. A key part of your role will be to ensure covert operations are investigated diligently and expeditiously. You will work very closely with other intelligence partners and with overt investigative teams to oversee the development of intelligence, evidence gathering and the successful disruption of terrorist activity using a range of overt and covert tactics.

A common misconception is that CTP rarely recruit into roles such as this when the candidate hasn’t previously worked in a CT environment or has no experience of working in a covert role. This is not the case - candidates from a variety of backgrounds and with diverse professional experience are encouraged to apply. A full induction and training package will be provided to the successful candidate, which will develop your understanding of terrorism related legislation and powers.

Effective communication, teamwork, the ability to work with partners and a proactive attitude are vital attributes. The successful post-holder should also possess an investigative mindset, with an understanding of intelligence handling and the ability to effectively assess threat, risk and vulnerability.
