This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about sustainability, confident in working with a range of stakeholders, and keen to make a meaningful difference in a policing environment. If you are driven, collaborative, and ready to help us build a more sustainable future, we would love to hear from you.

About the role

As Sustainability Manager, you will:

  • Lead the development, delivery and continual improvement of the Force Sustainability Strategy

  • Ensure compliance with national environmental legislation, including mandatory greenhouse gas reporting from 2026
  • Identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and improve whole‑life costs across business and operational activities
  • Provide expert sustainability and environmental advice to senior leaders and teams across the Force
  • Drive cultural change by embedding sustainable behaviours and long‑term environmental responsibility
  • Develop performance dashboards, reports and audits to track progress and inform decision‑making
  • Support the transition to low‑carbon and zero‑emission vehicles, including fleet planning and infrastructure considerations
  • Build strong partnerships with regional police forces, local authorities, public sector partners and national policing bodies
  • Lead internal engagement, training and awareness‑raising initiatives, including supporting the sustainability champions network
  • Prepare business cases and secure external funding, including grant and public sector decarbonisation opportunities
  • Manage budgets for sustainability projects, ensuring value for money and effective delivery

You will also represent the Force at local, regional and national sustainability forums and play a key role in shaping best practice across policing.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong knowledge of environmental legislation, sustainability principles and decarbonisation frameworks
  • Is confident working across complex organisations and influencing at all levels
  • Can translate sustainability strategy into practical, measurable action
  • Has experience developing programmes, managing budgets and delivering outcomes
  • Is collaborative, analytical and solutions‑focused
  • Demonstrates the Force values at all times and works in line with the Code of Ethics

Experience with Environmental Management Systems and relevant accreditations (such as ISO 14001) is highly desirable.

Our commitment

Lincolnshire Police is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. You will be expected to carry out your duties in a way that supports the Force Diversity Strategy and promotes fairness, respect and integrity.

The role also carries responsibilities relating to health and safety, and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, in line with Force policies and procedures.
