The principal responsibility of the Strategic Support Manager is to support the Criminal Justice department by leading the implementation of new initiatives, change/reform, and projects that impact on policy/strategy areas owned by the department, or based on drivers from the Home Office, Ministry of Justice etc.
Provide strategic liaison with key internal and external partners in any multi-agency criminal justice issues and represent the department or Force at local, regional or national forums.
To provide effective leadership to the Strategic Support Unit and any local project team members to enable delivery of high quality strategic/project support to the department. This service includes: policy development; structural reviews; managing the impact of legislation; local, regional and national change projects; preparing strategic position papers; identifying risks, issues and opportunities on any areas of criminal justice policy and processes.
In particular to:
- Manage the development of policy and strategy for all Criminal Justice issues across Devon & Cornwall Police
- Provide the Force strategic lead for the development of other identified issues, performance and initiatives
- Oversee all aspects of Criminal Justice Reform and respond to external drivers from HMIC, Home Office, Ministry of Justice, etc.
- Provide strategic liaison with key external partners in all multi-agency criminal justice issues
- Represent the Department or Force at local, regional or national forums
- Develop and implement the Department’s communications strategy to support key corporate messages and improve performance
- To provide effective management and supervision for Criminal Justice Strategic Support
This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post. In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.
