Staff - Volunteer Services Officer - Citizens in Policing Team

Working for Northamptonshire Police

Would you like to play a key role in connecting our communities with policing and helping volunteers make a real difference across Northamptonshire?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and proactive individual to join our Citizens in Policing (CiP) Team as a Volunteer Support Officer (VSO). This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of one of the Force's most important community engagement functions, supporting the recruitment, development, wellbeing and coordination of our volunteers, Special Constables and Volunteer Police Cadets.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Support Officer, you will provide force-wide coordination and support across our Citizens in Policing portfolio, helping to ensure our volunteers, Special Constables and Cadets are recruited, trained, supported and developed effectively.

Working closely with colleagues, volunteers, community groups, educational establishments and partner organisations, you will coordinate a wide range of programmes including Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers, Volunteer Police Cadets, Street Watch, Volunteers on Horseback, MOSOVO Volunteers, Chaplains and Employer Supported Volunteering initiatives.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. One day you could be supporting a Special Constable through their recruitment journey, the next organising a cadet engagement event, developing a new volunteer opportunity, or working with local employers to increase community involvement through volunteering.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Supporting the recruitment, onboarding and retention of Special Constables, volunteers and Cadets.
  • Coordinating volunteer and cadet welfare, wellbeing and engagement activities.
  • Monitoring compliance, vetting, training and mandatory requirements.
  • Supporting the delivery and development of the Volunteer Police Cadet programme.
  • Working with departments across the Force to identify and develop new volunteer opportunities.
  • Building positive relationships with volunteers, cadets, community groups, educational establishments and partner agencies.
  • Planning and delivering recruitment, engagement, recognition and development events.
  • Producing management information and supporting continuous improvement within Citizens in Policing.
  • Promoting volunteering opportunities and representing Northamptonshire Police at community and recruitment events.
  • Supporting Employer Supported Volunteering initiatives and developing partnerships that increase community participation in policing.
About You

You will be a confident communicator with excellent organisational skills and a passion for working with people.

You will be able to build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, manage competing priorities and work independently while supporting wider team objectives.

Experience of supporting volunteers, young people, community groups or working within a public service environment would be beneficial, although not essential.

Why Join Us?

The work in this team makes a difference by bringing people and policing together. Through the recruitment, support and development of volunteers, Special Constables and Cadets, you will help create additional capacity for the Force, strengthen community relationships, build public confidence and inspire future generations to become involved in policing and public service.

This is a unique opportunity to support people who willingly give their time to make Northamptonshire safer while helping shape and grow innovative volunteering programmes that directly support frontline policing.

If you are looking for a role where you can have a direct impact on both policing and the communities we serve, we would love to hear from you.

Northamptonshire Police is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
