Special Constable - Roads Policing

Surrey Police Special Constabulary are open for applications from transferee IP/DPS Special Constables to join the Roads Policing Unit, within Operations Command.

Officers on this team will work with our regular colleagues in our Roads Policing and Vanguard Teams, supporting Surrey and Sussex Police.

Roads Policing is an exciting, varied and highly specialised role. If successful, you will have the opportunity for development and upskilling, identified through a Training Needs Analysis and Continual Professional Development.

We are looking for motivated, proactive minded officers to contribute in targeting criminals utilising the roads network, as well as improving road safety (especially with regards to Fatal Five offences) and aiding in the investigation of road KSI incidents.

This position is open to all Special Constable ranks. However those in a supervisory position will transfer at the rank of Special Constable. 

Owing to the Specialist requirements and commitment this role brings, Officers are encouraged to perform a minimum of 24 operational hours per month.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

In this role you will be supporting Surrey and Sussex Police Operations Command, specifically in the Roads Policing role.

Skills & Experience

Further Information

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a competency based interview and assessment, with anticipated start dates from June 2026, subject to vetting.

Please note, all positions will be initially based out of Burpham Traffic Centre, with the aim to make positions available from Caterham Police Station later this year.
