We are accepting applications from Police Officers who are confirmed in rank and would like to be part of our team. We are also accepting transferees from UK home office forces, that are currently fully qualified Road Policing Constables.

Location
The county of North Yorkshire is geographically the largest county in England with some of the most spectacular landscapes in the UK. With over 6000 miles of road network, including town and city roads, major internal road networks and motorways as part of the national arterial road network joining the North to the South of England. We serve rural, coastal and urban areas offering a variety of policing experiences and different challenges for the Roads Policing Officer.
North Yorkshire Police are strongly committed to Road Safety and as such have invested heavily in this area, we have current vacancies at the Operational Support Bases at Skipton and Thirsk.

The Role
As a Road Policing Officer, you will be responsible for the patrol of a designated area with particular regard to the prevention and detection of crime, the promotion of conflict free roads and developing improvements in road safety. Other duties will include participation in national road safety campaigns plus proactive patrolling in conjunction with the force ANPR capabilities. Furthermore, first attendance at fatal and serious RTCs will be necessary and therefore resilience, good scene management and investigative skills are required.
Overall, successful candidates will be proactive and demonstrate a passion for road safety, be able to work under their own initiative, be able to demonstrate sound investigative skills and work to high standards. RPU officers are a force resource and are often single crewed, however they do work collaboratively with both internal and external partners.
Skill & Experience
It is essential that applicants have or are willing to attain the following accredited skills:
o Police Advanced Driver
o Initial Phase Pursuit
o HoSTyD (Stinger) Device Trained
o Tactical Phase Pursuit
o Traffic Law Course modules
N.B: If successful applicants are unable to successfully complete the above, they will be ineligible to remain on the Roads Policing Unit and will be redeployed within North Yorkshire Police.
Desirable Skills
o Police Advanced Motorcyclist
o VIPEX
o Road Death Lead Investigator/Supervising Serious Collision Scenes course
o Tac-Med level first aid
o Handheld Laser speed detection
N.B: Training will be given to officers in these above areas.
Selection & Assessment
The selection process will begin with an online application and then a two part assessment;
Part 1 - Successfully shortlisted candidates would be invited to a skills based exercise/knowledge check Assessment.
Part 2 - Final Interview on achieving a pass at the assessment with a check drive.
N.B: The final interview will not be the same date as the skills assessment.

- The recruitment process will follow a set programme of Application form, paper sift, skills assessment, competency-based interview, conditional offer subject to vetting (including biometrics), medical checks, reference checks and fitness test.

- If successful and once posted, passing the relevant essential skills courses listed within this advert, is a mandatory requirement. Failure to do so with result in redeployment into another role.
Internal Only
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements;
- You must inform your line manager and Head of Function and gain their approval before submitting your application.
- You must have passed your probation and be substantive in Rank of Police Constable at the time the advert closes.
External Only
- We only currently accept transferring officers from a UK Home Office Force.

i) Initial Phase Pursuit qualified OR,
ii) Tactical Phase Pursuit qualified
- North Yorkshire Police currently does not offer a relocation allowance.
