Technology is constantly evolving. So are organised crime groups.
The Yorkshire & Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU) is seeking an exceptional leader to head one of the most specialised and innovative capability portfolios in UK policing.
This is a rare opportunity to lead the Regional Technical Development Unit (TDU) and oversee a portfolio that includes Targeted Equipment Interference (TEI), Internet Intelligence and Investigations (III), Crime Overseas Production Orders (COPO), and technical capability development.
If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be the real-world equivalent of “Q” from James Bond, developing and delivering capabilities that give investigators an edge against the most sophisticated criminal networks, this could be the role for you.
Working at the intersection of technology, covert tactics, innovation and operational policing, you will lead highly skilled specialists delivering capabilities that support some of the most complex and sensitive investigations undertaken by UK law enforcement.
About the Role
Reporting to the DCI Sensitive Equities, you will provide operational leadership, governance and development of YHROCU's specialist TEI and technical capability portfolio.
You will lead teams responsible for delivering lawful, ethical and effective technical capabilities that support serious and organised crime investigations across Yorkshire and the Humber.
Working closely with regional police forces, the National Crime Agency, government departments, national policing programmes and industry partners, you will identify opportunities to exploit emerging technologies, enhance operational effectiveness and ensure YHROCU remains at the forefront of technical innovation.
This is a role that combines leadership, problem-solving, innovation and operational impact in equal measure.
What You'll Be Doing
You will:
- Lead and develop the Regional TEI Cell and associated technical capabilities.
- Act as the regional manager for TEI, III and COPO capabilities.
- Ensure specialist capabilities are delivered lawfully, ethically and in accordance with relevant legislation and national standards.
- Develop and implement innovative technical solutions that support investigations into serious and organised crime.
- Lead, mentor and develop highly skilled specialist officers and police staff.
- Manage sensitive operational capabilities, ensuring robust governance, security and risk management arrangements are maintained.
- Build productive relationships with regional forces, national policing programmes, partner agencies and commercial providers.
- Identify and evaluate emerging technologies that could enhance operational capability.
- Provide specialist advice to senior leaders on technical opportunities, risks and emerging threats.
- Represent YHROCU at regional and national technical, operational and professional forums.
- Promote innovation, organisational learning and continuous improvement across the specialist capability portfolio.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a credible, innovative and forward-thinking leader with experience operating within one or more of the following areas:
- Serious and organised crime investigations
- Intelligence operations
- Covert policing
- Cyber or digital investigations
- Specialist technical capabilities
- Investigatory Powers Act authorities and covert tactics
You will be comfortable leading specialist teams, managing sensitive operational activity and navigating complex operational challenges.
Most importantly, you will possess the curiosity, creativity and leadership skills required to identify opportunities, develop capability and help policing stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminal threats.
Why Join Us?
Few roles in UK policing offer the opportunity to lead such a diverse and specialist capability portfolio.
From supporting complex investigations through TEI, exploiting online opportunities through III, securing overseas electronic evidence via COPO, and developing future technical capabilities, you will play a critical role in protecting communities and disrupting serious and organised crime.
You will work alongside highly skilled officers, police staff and national partners, using innovative technology and specialist tactics to tackle some of the most significant criminal threats facing the region.
Every day presents new challenges, new technology and new opportunities to make a tangible difference.
If you're looking for a role that combines leadership, innovation, technology and operational impact, we'd like to hear from you.
The criminals are evolving.
Help policing stay one step ahead.
