It is essential that all ID procedures are conducted in accordance with legislation (Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, Code D) in order for the evidence to be accepted at court, to enhance the prosecution case and to bring offenders to justice. Working under the management of the Force ID Inspector, the purpose of the Promat and EFit Officer role is to:
ID Procedures –
- Quality assure all ID procedure requests and provide guidance to investigating officers.
- Prepare and conduct Promat electronic ID parades with witnesses, which are video recorded and conducted in presence of defence legal representatives. Take written statements from witnesses regarding the process.
EFit -
- To interview witnesses using cognitive memory recall techniques in order to compile a Facial Composite using EFit-V (computer generated impression of the suspect) for use in investigations and for media release.
Court Witness –
- Provide evidence in court with regards to the specialist nature of the role and integrity of the identification procedure conducted.
