The Opportunity

As a Project Manager, you will be an integral part of the Portfolio & Programme Management team, responsible for planning, managing and delivering a wide range of projects and change initiatives. These initiatives directly support NYP’s organisational priorities, enabling improvements in performance and delivering demonstrable return on investment.

You will provide expert project management across the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with governance frameworks, policies and processes. Your work will contribute to a high-performing service that is consistent, credible and aligned to the vision of one unified professional service.

You will also play a key role in shaping and continuously improving the organisation’s Portfolio & Programme Management model, supporting a positive, inclusive team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply professional project management methodology to deliver successful projects and realise business case benefits.
  • Produce project documentation including plans, acceptance criteria, risk and issue logs, and oversee specialist resources for design, implementation and testing.
  • Manage scope, cost, resources, communication, risk, procurement and quality throughout each project.
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide pragmatic problem-solving in a customer-focused environment.
  • Produce, manage and reconcile project budgets, with reporting in line with governance requirements.
  • Maintain project risk registers and escalate appropriately.
  • Work in partnership with business areas to support effective implementation and transition to BAU.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to ensure solutions are well-developed, tested and capable of delivering intended benefits.
  • Conduct peer and quality reviews of projects, providing recommendations to support NYP strategies.
  • Produce monthly reports on progress, risks, and delivery against time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Lead and manage one or more project teams, motivating staff and managing performance.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to Business Analysts, ensuring timely, risk‑weighted analytical advice.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders across NYP and partner agencies.
  • Provide consultancy, advice and coaching to support colleagues and promote customer self-service.
  • Contribute to ongoing development and implementation of the Portfolio & Programme Management model.
  • Work with Business Analysts to understand interdependencies across the portfolio.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Qualified in (or working towards) a Project Management methodology (e.g., PRINCE2) or significant experience delivering large-scale, complex projects.
  • Understanding and experience of benefits identification and management.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to interpret complex information.
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team, including coaching and staff development.
  • Strong commercial awareness, planning and organisational skills.
  • High-level networking, communication, influencing and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrable credibility in leading change within complex environments.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Coaching or mentoring qualifications/experience
  • ITIL framework qualification or equivalent experience in an ITIL environment
  • Experience across multiple sectors (public, private, charity, etc.)
