Join GMP's New Major Events and Protective Security Team (MEPS)
Greater Manchester Police is seeking a highly motivated member of staff to join the newly established Major Events and Protective Security Team (MEPS) as a Programme Support Officer - Major Events.
This is a unique opportunity to become part of a specialist team at the forefront of some of the most significant policing challenges and opportunities facing Greater Manchester over the coming years. The successful applicant will help shape and develop a new capability from the ground up, influencing how GMP plans, coordinates and delivers policing services in support of major events and protective security requirements across the force.
About the Team
MEPS has been established to provide a dedicated and professional approach to major event planning, coordination and delivery. Working with internal and external partners, the team will ensure GMP is prepared to meet the policing requirements associated with an increasing number of nationally and internationally significant events taking place across Greater Manchester.
Alongside this, the team will lead, coordinate and develop GMP's protective security capability, providing specialist expertise in areas including:
- Protective security planning and risk mitigation
- Security advice relating to vulnerable locations and crowded places
- Protecting public figures, dignitaries and other protected persons
- Search planning and specialist search capabilities
- Counter-UAV awareness and response
- Emerging threats and protective security innovation
- Partner engagement and multi-agency security coordination
The team will become a centre of excellence for these disciplines, supporting operational policing whilst helping GMP remain at the forefront of modern protective security practices.

How to apply?

- Experience of coordinating activity within complex programmes, projects, operations or major events.
- Experience producing reports, briefing documents and operational products for senior managers and stakeholders.
- Experience of accreditation, access control or security related processes, such as intelligence systems, retention requirements and risk-based decision making.
- Knowledge and understanding of operational planning processes within a policing environment, ideally within a protective security environment.
- Ability to analyse information and identify operational implications.
- Ability to work towards tight timeframes whilst working across multiple and conflicting deadlines.
