Principal intelligence Analyst

  • Open to full time or part time (Monday to Friday)
  • Location – 4 days office based (Swindon or Melksham) with a degree of flexibility about home working

We’re looking for a Principal Intelligence Analyst to lead our analytical, research and indexer teams and help shape how Wiltshire Police understands crime, tackles harm and protects the most vulnerable.

This is a senior role for someone who enjoys solving problems, leading people, and turning complex information into clear insight that genuinely changes how we police.

About the role

As the Principal Intelligence Analyst, you'll lead our analytical and research team and help shape how Wiltshire Police understands crime, tackles harm and protects the most vulnerable. You’ll be the person who brings together the big picture of crime in Wiltshire - what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what we need to do about it.

Your work directly influences major policing decisions, including:

  • Where we put our resources
  • How we tackle serious threats
  • How we identify organised crime
  • How we protect vulnerable people and victims

You’ll lead a talented team of analysts, helping them grow while ensuring our data and intelligence work is high quality, accurate, and focused on the right issues.

What you’ll be doing day-to-day

  • Lead the analysis team manage their development, performance, and training.
  • Turn intelligence into action analyse crime trends and risks, helping us understand threats to the public.
  • Support investigations provide evidential analysis to help build cases and bring offenders to justice.
  • Spot the big issues early identify patterns, organised crime groups, and risks affecting our communities.
  • Create strategic products produce the key reports that shape the Force’s priorities and control strategy.
  • Work with senior leaders provide clear advice to Chief Officers and Heads of Department.
  • Improve how we work support the development of better systems, processes, and analytical tools.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Formal qualification to demonstrate analytical and managerial capability to Degree Level or equivalent experience
  • NIAT certified
  • IPP minimum senior analyst certification
  • Evidence previous experience in operational and strategic analysis
  • Previous management experience
  • Experience of researching and producing statistical and analytical information and presenting it both in written and oral format
  • Experience of giving presentations and representing an organisation in a professional manner
