North Yorkshire Police currently hold vacancies for Police Staff Investigators within the Coast Investigation Hub. The role of Police Staff Investigator (PSI) is both a challenging and rewarding position. We have projected vacancies in the future, thus we’ll create a holding list for a period of 12 months.

About the role
As Police Staff Investigator you will be responsible for gathering and reviewing evidence and undertaking crime investigation duties, ensuring that any evidence obtained is recorded, secured, preserved, and reviewed in a timely and appropriate manner to safeguard the vulnerable and to bring offenders to justice, thereby supporting Force policing mission, and organisational priorities.
You will need excellent communication skills (including the ability to communicate difficult messages with tact, sensitivity, and authority), problem-solving and decision-making skills.
The role concerns the investigation and review of material relating to various volume crime types. Previous experience of working within investigations, together with an understanding of the various processes of criminal investigation, including court procedures and an understanding of the potential and limitations of Forensic Science support is desirable, but training is available.
As a Police Staff Investigator, you will:
- Plan, prepare and conduct Interviews with witnesses and suspects.
- Utilise NICHE, and other Police information sources as applicable to the investigation.
- Carry out investigative tasks utilising a variety of sources of information.
- Preparation of prosecution case files, managing exhibits and disclosure, and support CPS requests.
- Ensure that evidence is recorded, secured, and preserved in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Comply with data protection.
- Present evidence in Court.
Hours & Travel
You will be expected to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, 2 earlies and 2 lates (11 and 12 hours shifts on a rota) - 07:00 – 18:00, 12:00 – 00:00 or 13:00 - 00:00 - weekend working, and due to the nature and demand of role there may be occasions when you will be requested to work beyond your normal scheduled working hours and travel / work around the force, and on occasion other force areas.

Be able to travel for workshops and conferences and work later, on odd occasions for operational requirements.
Meet residency requirements for vetting:
- RV Level Vetting – minimum 3 years UK residency
- Confirmation of offer will be subject to receipt of satisfactory sickness absence checks, disciplinary and complaints records, references and security checks which meet the requirements.
- PIP1 accreditation is required for this role – we are willing to offer in job training to the successful applicant. PIP 2 is optional accreditation.
