Weekly requirements to attend training/outer stables – Address: The Stockyard, Bushy Park Hampton Court Road, TW12 2EJ
*whilst the relocation of an Inner London Stables is completed officers will be required to parade from Bushy Park.
Salary: According to National Payscales plus Allowances

Role Purpose:
Mounted constables are responsible for providing a unique Policing resource with heightened response and public engagement value, building public trust and confidence in supporting Policing activities. This includes ceremonial events, responding to incidents, maintaining public order, preventing and detecting crime.
The City of London Mounted Branch unit is currently in a phase of ambitious growth to return it to a fully operational Mounted Branch PSU which includes the locating, purchasing and training of new potential police horses as well as relevant training for all officers.
Key Accountabilities:
- Maintain the highest standards of welfare of police horses, ensuring the best possible levels of care and turnout. To assist with the ongoing training of all police horses, with the potential, upon completion of the intermediate qualification, to work with trainers to introduce remounts to the City.
- Patrol communities, as directed, in response to high profile incidents or ongoing high volumes of criminal activity, providing public reassurance and the prevention and detection of crime.
- Police public order and ceremonial events, responding to risks, threats and incidents in line with operational tasking; to ensure public order, to prevent criminal activity and to safeguard the public and colleagues .
- Gather and handle information and intelligence from a range of sources, in line with legislation, policies and guidance, taking appropriate action to support investigations, law enforcement and criminal justice proceedings.
- Manage conflict by taking control where appropriate, taking account of personal and public safety and horse welfare to ensure that situations are handled in a safe and proportionate manner.
- Interact with members of the public, local businesses and partners; to support the delivery of a visible and interactive Police Service. Support community events
- Develop and maintain equitation and public order skill set, to retain National competency level for Mounted Officer, and to develop / enhance personal performance within the team.
Statement of expectation for the role:
This is a full time PC post within the Mounted Branch.
Essential Criteria:
- Applicants must currently hold a valid NPCC Standard Equitation Certificate (SEC).
- Knowledge of horse care, welfare, and stable management
- Experience riding in busy/public environments (roads, events, crowds)
- Applicants must have successfully passed the Job‑Related Fitness Test (JRFT) (currently the 5.7 level bleep test) prior to appointment.
- Candidates must be willing to undertake Mounted Branch Public Order Training.
- Experience in public order policing (Level 2 PSU trained) or equivalent
- Successful candidates will be expected to undertake training to obtain their HGV licence in order to maintain the unit’s capability to drive the City of London Police horsebox as required by operational demands.
Desirable Criteria
- Intermediate Rider
- National Mounted Police Instructor
- HGV – Category C Driving qualification
- Level 2 Public Order
Applicants who are successful during paper-sift will be required to attend a 1-day riding suitability assessment at Bushy Park to assess suitability for immediate posting.
