PC - Roads Policing and Specialist Operations (RPSO)
Applications are sought from substantive police constables to join the Roads Policing and Specialist Operations (RPSO) team.
In this role, your main responsibilities will be:
- To respond to serious incidents on the road networks and promote road safety.
- To provide operational specialist support force wide and respond to cross Pillar demands and priorities.
- To manage the initial investigation of serious road traffic collisions.
- To be actively involved in community engagement and problem solving to reduce crime and increase trust and confidence
Skills, experience, and qualifications required:
- Must have successfully passed the probationary period ( 2 or 3 years depending on entry route
- Must be able to pass the advanced driver training course.
- Mut be able to pass an initial phase pursuit course (IPP)
- Must be able to pass a tactical pursuit and containment course. (TPAC)
- Must have knowledge of Road Traffic legislation and Road Safety initiatives.
- Applicants must be able to successfully pass PPST training (Application of the Equality Act will continue to apply).
Successful candidates will need to be available for advanced driving courses which are currently planned for

23/11/2026 - 17/12/2026
11/01/2027 - 04/02/2027
Officers will be required to successfully pass the advanced driving course prior to being accepted onto the department.
Officers who are unsuccessful after two attempts at either the initial phase pursuit course (IPP) or the Tactical pursuit and containment course (TPAC) may not be appointed.
Interviews to be held week commencing the 15th June 2026.
