Operational Support Officer - Coronial Unit - Grade C - 825

The Operational Support Officer is a vital resource within Greater Manchester Police, providing excellent customer service to members of the public, colleagues and partner agencies.

You will be in contact with deceased family members and may be required to obtain information for the processing of deaths reported to Her Majesty's Coroner and assist the Police Coroners Officers (PCO) in their day to day tasks.

You will be responsible for the triage of community reported deaths and the ongoing management through the PCO systems.

You will provide administrative support which will include drafting letters, documents to be used in the inquest process and updating PCO trackers and databases.

You will input details of deaths reported onto the GMP Death Reporting database together with preparing the daily death referrals to District Senior Leadership Teams and HM Coroners.

You will provide support and assist in the preparation of inquest files, as well as assisting in the identification of deceased persons and family liaison.

You will submit digital devices to the Digital Investigation Unit and disseminate progress reports to the PCOs.

You will be responsible for liaison with the Press Office, Local Authority and HM Coroners regarding media releases and public appeals.

You will be required to take minutes at meetings, recording salient points and actions, and be responsible for disseminating to all attendees.

You will monitor the PCO mailbox and voicemail, and take responsibility for incoming and outgoing mail with timely allocation to the relevant PCO.

You will be responsible for diary management, coordinating and maintaining the Hub diary.

You will show initiative and conduct research and enquiries on behalf of the PCOs to assist with progressing investigations.

Using GMP's Property Management System, and working closely with GMP's Property Managers, you will be responsible for the management of seized coronial property and its subsequent disposal.

You will support by performing administrative duties such as archiving, managing and ordering stationary, scanning and copying documents.

You may at times be responsible for the collection and delivery of medical records from local Health Organizations to the hospital mortuary and collect material to assist the inquest process from varying police stations and departments.

The successful candidate should be confident to engage with the public, GMP colleagues and partner agencies and should have the ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm but firm.

The successful candidate will need to be resilient and have the ability to multi task given the subject matter that they will be exposed to on a daily basis and the demands created from the volume of work.

The successful candidate will evidence experience of efficiency in using IT systems, of dealing with members of the public over the telephone, and will provide evidence that they have worked in a similar capacity, checking, recording, inputting and retrieving information accurately.

Working with minimum supervision and to tight timescales together with producing work to the required standard is also essential to the role as is PowerPoint experience and good written communication skills.

The use of a personal vehicle may be required for some of the above tasks.
