Job Title: Operational Planning Manager

Salary: The starting salary is £48,995, which includes allowances totalling £3,009 allowance.

The salary is broken down as £45,986 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £54,863. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Kilburn (Queen’s Park Underground)

 

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Metropolitan Police’s Workforce Planning & Deployment (WPD) Team, playing a key role in shaping the way we resource and support one of the largest policing organisations in the world.

You will help deliver the priorities of the Corporate Workforce Planning & Insight function by producing accurate and timely forecasts, models, and deployment plans for approximately 50,000 officers and staff across 70+ business units and OCUs.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Planning & Governance 

  • Represent the Workforce Planning & Deployment function when working with internal and external stakeholders, leading discussions, presenting insights, and influencing workforce decisions across the organisation.
  • Lead the production, analysis, and presentation of workforce planning data to support strategic and operational decision‑making.
  • Support Workforce Planning Leads with monthly updates to the Design Priority Framework (DPF) and Occupancy Model, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.

Continuous Improvement & Risk Management

  • Implement effective processes that promote continuous learning, risk identification, and proactive management of workforce planning issues.
  • Provide guidance and responses to second‑level queries, escalating complex issues where appropriate.
  • Identify and highlight areas of concern within governance, systems, and processes, recommending solutions to drive efficiencies and promote self‑service across the organisation.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of LRPM Support Officers, ensuring they have the capability and tools needed to deliver high‑quality services.
  • Foster strong collaboration across the Workforce Planning & Deployment function to support consistent and effective service delivery.
