The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of nine Regional Organised Crime Units (“ROCU”) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery. The ROCU network continues to expand and Home Office funding through police officer uplift and increased police staff capacity presents exciting opportunities to further enhance service delivery and positively impact on our partners and the public. The Home Office Serious and Organised Crime Strategy defines ROCU as leading the regional fight against Serious and Organised Crime and NEROCU have a critical role in leading, connecting and co-ordinating delivery across our region in all four P’s of the strategy; Pursue – prosecuting and disrupting people engaged in serious and organised criminality. Prevent – preventing people from engaging in serious and organised criminality. Protect – increasing protection against organised crime. Prepare – reducing the impact of serious and organised crime where it takes place. NEROCU comprises of specialist teams delivering across intelligence, operations, investigations, cyber, economic, technical and digital capabilities.

The role

 

We are looking for an Office Manager to play a pivotal role in the effective delivery of support services across the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU). Reporting to the Head of Specialist Capabilities, you will lead and manage a multi-functional team responsible for delivering a diverse range of business support activities that enable operational policing to function effectively and efficiently.

 

This is a varied and dynamic leadership role with responsibility for performance, finance, infrastructure, governance and organisational support functions. You will work closely with the Senior Management Team, operational leads and partner organisations to ensure that support services meet the demands of a complex regional policing environment.

 

The successful candidate will oversee areas including business support, health and safety, facilities, fleet management, information governance, business continuity and organisational compliance. The role requires a proactive and innovative individual who can build strong relationships, improve processes and lead change across the unit.

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Lead the NEROCU Support Services Team, creating a positive, high-performing culture that delivers excellent service and support across the organisation.
  • Oversee a range of business support functions, ensuring services, resources and facilities are delivered efficiently to meet operational needs.
  • Manage team performance and workloads, prioritising activity, allocating resources effectively and ensuring high standards of customer service and delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with managers, staff and partner organisations, acting as a key point of contact to resolve issues and drive service improvements.
  • Drive performance, compliance and continuous improvement, leading audits, maintaining business systems and ensuring policies, procedures and data meet organisational and legislative requirements.
  • Provide leadership on governance, health and safety and business management, producing reports and performance information, coordinating inspections and audits, and ensuring the organisation remains compliant, efficient and well supported.
  • Work collaboratively across NEROCU and partner agencies, identifying opportunities to enhance services, improve ways of working and deliver value for money.

You'll be able to demonstrate:

 

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop and support high-performing teams.
  • An IOSH Managing Safely qualification (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification) is essential for this role. Experience of working within policing, the public sector or another complex multi-agency environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience of managing service delivery, resources and performance, ensuring priorities, objectives and quality standards are consistently achieved.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to balance competing demands, make informed decisions and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to build effective relationships, influence outcomes and work collaboratively across teams and organisations.
  • A track record of driving continuous improvement, developing processes, managing change and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, using data and insight to support decision-making, manage risk and improve performance.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach, with a commitment to delivering professional, high-quality services.
  • Good digital skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work confidently with business systems and data.

Terms of appointment

 

This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
