CLOSING DATE: 26th April 2026
A NATIONAL TRAINING ROLE FOR AN EXPERIENCED TACTICAL FLIGHT OFFICER
NPAS is seeking a National Tactical Flight Training Officer (NTFTO – Police Staff) to plan, develop and deliver tactical flight officer (TFO) training across all NPAS fleets and bases.
This is a highly specialist national training role, and we recognise that the potential candidate pool is small. We therefore strongly encourage interested applicants to read the essential criteria carefully before applying.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Training, the post holder will lead the delivery of initial and recurrent TFO training, ensuring compliance with CAA regulations, NPAS Operations Manual requirements and training doctrine.
The role operates across all NPAS operating locations and aircraft types, with a strong focus on assurance, standardisation and continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
Planning and delivering national TFO initial and recurrent training programmes
Conducting regulatory assessments and flight checks to maintain TFO competency
Ensuring training standards, safety and operational effectiveness across NPAS
Contributing to national training needs analysis and continuous improvement activity
Supporting TFO recruitment and selection processes
Representing NPAS Training at regional and national forums
Promoting professionalism, inclusivity and a strong safety culture
Essential criteria – who can apply
Due to the nature of this post, applicants must meet the following essential requirement at the point of application:
You must currently hold, or have held within the last 12 months, a Tactical Flight Officer position on an aircraft type operated by NPAS.
This is not a development role from outside NPAS TFO operations. The training credibility and regulatory responsibilities of the post depend on current or very recent operational NPAS TFO experience.
Applicants must also be able to demonstrate:
Strong communication and instructional skills
Experience delivering training in an operational or classroom environment
The ability to work nationally with flexibility to travel
Why consider this role?
This post offers a rare opportunity to shape national tactical flight officer capability, influence training standards and directly contribute to aviation safety and operational effectiveness across England and Wales.
The application process will close at 23:55hrs on 26th April 2026.
