We are looking for creative, proactive, and determined candidates to apply for our fast-paced and dynamic Media Office which is one of the busiest in the country. You will be responsible for helping to build public trust and confidence by working with officers, staff, and the media to tell the story of how GMP is protecting communities, solving crime, and supporting victims.
Working for the Media Office, you will have a key role in helping to catch criminals by providing advice and publicising appeals for information, help communities feel safer by creating engaging content about the work of local police teams, and inform the public about key incidents and investigations that are of high local and national significance.
As part of the second biggest police force in the country, you will tell the story of how GMP’s work positively impacts the 2.8million people we serve, and how we are leading the way in key priority areas such as our victim-centred approach to protecting children, our problem-solving neighbourhood policing, and our proactive fight against organised crime.
You will facilitate local and national media opportunities on exciting policing operations, from serious crime investigations and award-winning documentaries, to large-scale music and sporting events. You will assist with the team’s responsibility of providing communications for the North West Counter Terrorism Police, including in major incidents.
The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate skills to deliver a quality news information service on behalf of GMP, including creating engaging communications for the media, social media and the wider public, a keen-eye for monitoring and evaluating the news agenda and identifying potential organisational risks, coming up with new and innovative ideas for engaging with our audiences, whilst also providing sound and rational media advice to senior officers.
The ideal candidates would be expected to demonstrate experience of media handling, working well in a fast-paced environment, a strong team ethic, empathy, understanding, and key skills for helping with the day-to-day running of the GMP Media Office.
Successful candidates will be expected to work from Force Headquarters as part of a 10-week rota, on a shift pattern of: 6.30am-2.30pm, 8am-4pm, 10am-6pm and 11am-7pm. You will be on-call to the force 24/7 for one week in 10 on a rota basis. The team have an agile way of working with a mix of working from home during on call and from within Force Headquarters.
