Our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hubs (MASH) are expanding, and we have an exciting opportunity to join one of our pan-London teams as a Safeguarding Researcher.
This is an exciting time to be working as a safeguarding researcher for the Metropolitan Police Service. In addition to large-scale transformation, there is the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London. This means that as a researcher, there are opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK's largest Police Service.
Role:
Researchers support the MASH by providing research for cases involving children and adults where there are safeguarding concerns and Children’s or Adult’s Social Care need to be notified so that they can ensure the right interventions are made.
The role involves researching children and adults using police systems, and providing a summary of relevant information found. This is a key part of the process ensuring that the decision maker has the right information to risk assess the case and share what we know with partners to help them to decide what action they may need to take to keep that person safe.
You will need to be able to work methodically, conducting thorough and detailed searches and be able to prioritise your workload within this extremely busy environment. This will include several administrative tasks and use of Police Systems.
Key responsibilities:
- To undertake general administration duties, including identifying open cases and transferring reports.
- To complete an initial review of each safeguarding report, in line with current children and adult threshold frameworks.
- To conduct thorough research in line with current policy for all safeguarding reports and safeguarding requests, ensuring relevancy and proportionality and complying with information sharing legislation.
- To prepare a written summary of relevant research, using a variety of databases, which will assist a supervisor to grade the report, comply with submission timeframes and assist Children’s Social Care, Adult Social Care or another statutory partner to decide what support the person requires and who is best placed to provide it.
- Recognise when cases should be brought to the attention of a supervisor due to sensitivity, complexity or risk.
- To support the Met’s response to Operation Encompass by ensuring all relevant notifications are sent to the relevant education setting in accordance with prescribed timescales.
- Update existing police records in cases where Children’s Social Care (CSC) provide case updates following a police MASH referral. Inform supervisors of any concerns following feedback received.
- Record all police intelligence that is shared with local authorities following an information request.
- Assist with any other administrative tasks requested by the MASH Supervisors.
