About the team/Department you will be joining:
We are a professional, committed, inclusive and engaging team working in the Force Intelligence department.
We are based at locations throughout the force including Bridgend, Swansea Cardiff, and from home in line with the South Wales Police smarter working policy.
Our team works a flexible working pattern amounting to 37hrs per week generally on a 0800-1600 basis Mon-Fri.
There will be some requirement for working outside of these hours, to cover occasional weekends and evenings shifts with the relevant allowances being payable.
About the role and your key responsibilities:
South Wales Police is seeking a proactive and motivated local Intelligence Officer to join our dedicated team. In this vital role, you’ll be at the heart of intelligence gathering – supporting criminal investigations, identifying suspects, and helping to combat Serious and Organised Criminality and assist in reducing crime and disorder across South Wales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, evaluate, and develop intelligence from a variety of sources.
- Support operational policing by preparing intelligence packages and briefings.
- Conduct open-source and police system research to support investigations.
- Present intelligence findings to internal teams and external partners.
- Support live incidents and major investigations with real-time intelligence.
What You’ll Need:
- Strong IT skills and confidence using Microsoft applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrable investigative experience or similar background.
- A keen understanding of local and regional crime issues.
- High standards of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
Desirable:
- Welsh Language Level 2.
- Background in criminal investigations.
- Experience handling sensitive information in line with data protection and MOPI.
You’ll be someone who:
- Thrives under pressure and remains calm in fast-paced environments.
- Communicates effectively with people at all levels.
- Works collaboratively but also takes ownership of tasks.
- Is committed to delivering a high standard of public service.
