The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Prevention Department within our Gateshead Area Command as a Licensing Coordinator.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in preventing crime and reducing vulnerability by coordinating licensing matters on behalf of Northumbria Police. You'll work closely with police officers, local authorities, licensees and a wide range of partners to help ensure licensing objectives are upheld and communities remain safe.
This role offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of partners including local authority licensing teams, legal departments, Trading Standards, Environmental Health, licensees and other police forces. You'll play a direct role in supporting safer communities through effective licensing and partnership working.
What you’ll do
As Licensing Coordinator, you'll be the force's point of contact for licensing matters, providing specialist advice and guidance to officers, staff and external partners.
You'll:
- Provide expert advice on licensing legislation and best practice across the organisation.
- Research and analyse information to support licensing decisions and enforcement activity.
- Assess licence applications through intelligence gathering, database searches, meetings and site visits.
- Conduct inspections of licensed premises and work with partners to address issues and improve compliance.
- Prepare and present evidence to support licensing reviews, objections and appeals.
- Liaise with legal services, local authorities and a range of partner agencies.
- Monitor developments in licensing legislation and keep the organisation informed of emerging issues.
- Represent Northumbria Police at partnership meetings and licensing forums.
- Produce management information and maintain accurate records and systems

What you’ll bring
We're looking for someone who can work confidently with sensitive information and build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You'll have:
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of administrative or clerical work.
- The ability to research, analyse and present information clearly and accurately.
- Experience using databases, email systems and computer applications.

Desirable
- Knowledge of licensing legislation, licensing processes and partnership working within a licensing environment.
- Relevant licensing qualification or willingness to work towards a recognised licensing qualification.

Terms of appointment
This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period.
