Location: Cambs HQ, Huntingdon (with agile working) 

Salary: Scale 4 (pay point depending on experience) 

Contract: Full-time, permanent 

About the Role 

Cambridgeshire Constabulary is seeking a highly organised and motivated Legal Services and Civil Claims Assistant to join our Legal Services Department working at Huntingdon Headquarters.  The site is accessible by public transport and there is free car parking on site. 

You will be part of a small friendly team providing comprehensive legal services to the Chief Constable, the Constabulary, its officers and staff.  The work of the Department is varied and covers both operational policing and litigation.  The full-time role will assist the team in the delivery of legal services across the Force, with particular focus on supporting the work of the Head of Legal Services and Force Solicitor. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage enquiries, correspondence and casework 
  • Maintain accurate records and support case management 
  • Assist with instructing counsel, organising meetings and diary management
  • Provide advice, guidance and support in relation to civil claims 
  • Compile and analyse data and reports 
  • Monitor external providers to ensure quality and value for money 
  • Review legal invoices and support budget monitoring 
  • Provide general administrative support 

About You 

You will be organised, detail-oriented, and able to handle sensitive information. You will have strong communication and IT skills and be comfortable working independently under pressure. 

Essential Requirements 

  • GCSE (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics 
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills 
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Full valid driving licence is preferable, but not essential

Additional Information 

The role supports agile working and may require travel. The successful candidate will be subject to Management Vetting (MV). Knowledge of legal practice is desirable, but full training will be provided.
