Lead Test Engineer - Police Staff

This is an 18-month contract (subject to change and/or extension) with the start date to be confirmed but expected to be early 2027.

Main Purpose of the role

As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning and executing test strategies, standards and methods to meet organisational objectives across multiple technologies for business process and technology acceptance testing.

You will lead the design and execution of tests, usability evaluations, business trials, confidence tests for all new and changed services, hardware and/or software using in house developed expertise, supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools.

Key Skills & Experience Required

Knowledge & Experience

  • Must have experience in developing, managing and administering test and validation procedures within multiple technology disciplines.
  • Previous experience of designing and executing test cases using standard testing techniques. Able to come up with different business scenarios for a feature, working with others in the team.
  • Previous experience of a range of technologies used for testing. Able to write test scripts. Be knowledgeable and have an understanding of applicable IT system design, of software and hardware.
  • Demonstrate experience of a structured approach to carrying out investigations, problem analysis and in producing reports including recommendations.
  • Must have experiennce of open system multi-tiered environments.
  • Demonstrate experience of researching and implementing IT solutions.
  • Deomnstrate the ability to keep up to date with advancement in information technology to contribute to the development of departmental procedures, the adoption of best affordable practice and provide accurate up to date technical advice to managers, users and suppliers.
  • Experience of working within an ITIL based organisation.

  • Be able to retain objectivity and maintain a strategic approach to a problem or situation when placed under conditions of stress.
  • Must be able to analyse requirements, identify simple patterns and trends.
  • Must be able to take into account new information or changed circumstances and modify understanding of a pproblem or situation accordingly.
  • Be able to communicate both verbally and in writing clearly, concisely and courteously to users, suppliers and colleagues of all levels.
  • Be self-motivated, slef-confident, enthusiastic and able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Be pro-active, flexible, open minded and innovative in style; willing to experiment with new ideas and implement change.
  • Be able to analyse a problem or situation, break it down systematically into its component parts and identify the relationships between these parts, selecting the appropriate method/tool to resolve the problem and reflect on the result, so that learning is identified and absorbed.
