About the role 

As Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Networks), you will provide technical leadership for the network services that enable modern policing. You'll shape, deliver and continuously improve secure, resilient and high-performing connectivity across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments, ensuring officers and staff can access critical digital services wherever policing happens. Working with architects, security specialists and engineering teams, you'll help drive innovation, strengthen operational resilience and support Wiltshire Police's digital transformation as we build the foundations of future-ready policing. 

What you will be doing  

  • Lead the design, delivery and operation of enterprise network services across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments. 
  • Provide technical leadership for LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, firewall, routing and connectivity platforms. 
  • Ensure network services are secure, resilient, supportable and aligned to architectural and security standards. 
  • Lead the transition of new and changed network services into live operation, ensuring readiness and service acceptance. 
  • Monitor, optimise and continually improve network performance, availability and reliability. 
  • Investigate complex incidents and problems, driving root cause analysis and long-term service improvements. 
  • Provide technical oversight of supplier-delivered services and network technology partners. 
  • Mentor and develop network engineers while championing modern, automation-enabled and cloud-aware networking practices. 

About you and your experience  

  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification. 
  • Degree in Computing, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience in network engineering. 
  • Industry-recognised networking certification such as Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA or equivalent. 
  • Proven experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise network services in large-scale live environments. 
  • Strong technical expertise across LAN, WAN, routing, switching, wireless networking and firewall technologies. 
  • Experience delivering secure, resilient and high-performing network infrastructure that supports critical operational services. 
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and keeping current with modern DDaT, cloud and network engineering practices.
