This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The Role & Key ResponsibilitiesFrom your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

In this role you will be required to:
- Develop, manage and coordinate the work of intelligence processors
- Motivate, develop and performance manage a team of intelligence processors to increase their capability
- Lead on the professionalisation of intelligence processing across the force
- Be a technical expert on all aspects of intelligence processing and management of intelligence data on NICHE
- Provide advice and guidance to all levels of operational colleagues and partners on the best practice when submitting intelligence
- Deliver training inputs to newly recruited Intelligence Processors covering the technical aspects of intelligence processing and dissemination
- Identify, build and maintain a network of professionals in intelligence processing across Law Enforcement
- Provide support to spontaneous, critical, and major incidents or events as directed, this can also include support to other Divisions and Departments or Forces
- Represent and promote high standard intelligence submission and intelligence-led policing, actively liaising with police officers, staff, and partners at all levels to develop relationships and processes
- To work collaboratively with managers in both Surrey and Sussex in support of the intelligence processing functions
- To conduct all responsibilities in strict adherence with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, standards, protocols, procedures, and guidelines
- To undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may reasonably be required, including the specific duties of similar or lesser graded posts
Qualifications Required:
Graduate calibre or equivalent professional experience, with proven and well-evidenced experience of intelligence in a law enforcement environment. If not certified through the Intelligence Professionalism Programme, or equivalent professional qualification, candidates should make available a portfolio of work to demonstrate competence
Skills & Experience:
Experience of, or the ability to quickly become competent in, both direct line management and professional management remotely due to shift patterns and taking responsibility for:
- Leading and motivating individuals and a team
- Setting and monitoring individual and team objectives
- Assessing and moderating staff competence within a portfolio
- Producing high quality outputs
- Achieving performance outcomes
- Managing individual and team performance
Extensive experience, or the ability to become competent in intelligence processing on Surrey & Sussex Policing systems including Niche.
Experience in developing new practice to meet changing needs or in support of complex enquiries. Competent at working either independently or as part of a team to create innovative solutions and develop new techniques.
Be able to demonstrate accurate keyboard and data entry skills and competence in the use of Windows based software (including spreadsheets and databases). Have the ability to learn and apply skills in Surrey & Sussex Police systems.
To negotiate, motivate and influence with officers and staff at a range of levels in order to implement changes in working practises and culture.

Additional Requirements:
To be flexible with working hours to support, develop and performance manage a number of people across different rotas and 4 locations working unsocial hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This may include working outside traditional office hours as required for the business and staffing needs.
To be flexible with working hours in order to support, develop and performance manage a large team of approximately 20 people (with direct line management responsibility for approximately 6 people) across 4 rotas and at varying locations (within Sussex only).
The post-holder must have a high level of personal integrity and successfully attain and maintain security vetting and appropriate clearance to work in the post-holder’s intelligence environment.
