About the team

The City of London is a key business centre by day with a vibrant night-time economy and growing hotel industry. The City continues to grow with construction underway on a number of sites at any one time. These daytime and night-time activities contribute to the crime areas we need to prevent and manage with our resources, with our analytical teams giving direction for the best use of these. Through research and analysis patterns and inconsistencies can be identified within information, crime data and intelligence. It enables our team to draw inferences, create hypotheses that support operational, tactical and strategic decision making; exploring what has happened with what could happen next. Our staff are trained researchers, analysts and intelligence development officers that offer insight into the control strategy elements, have experience using a range of different analytical and mapping software’s and can support intelligence development, tactics and investigations.

As an analyst, you will be required to deliver a high-quality analytical service in support of the priorities for the City of London Police. The role will require you to drive forward intelligence development ensuring the use of strategic, tactical and operational opportunities.

About the role

Specialist Operations is currently seeking a part time analyst, working 14 hours or 2 days per week, with suitable experience of analysis to join the team as part of a job share. At the current time there is no scope for increasing these hours.

Working within a wider professional analytical services team, your skills could help make an impact towards our objectives around tackling core policing priorities within the City of London and beyond. Using your knowledge and experience of the National Intelligence Model, you’ll work with a wide range of data sources to create analytical products in support of identifying and developing intelligence-led policing strategies.

This will include identifying, developing and presenting opportunities for law enforcement and key stakeholders to divert, deter, detect, disrupt and dismantle serious and organised crime groups. This is the police and evidential support may also be required, and should be expected, which could result in giving evidence at court. The highest standards of professional and personal integrity are required and must be maintained; as a key requirement for remaining in the role.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Collect, evaluate and analyse data from various sources, with a view to identifying offenders, victims, hotspot locations, crime patterns and trends, and crime series, resulting in the prioritisation and direction of police resources both at the tactical and strategic level.
  • Produce appropriate analytical products at strategic, tactical and/or operational level, identifying and using appropriate analytical tools and techniques to interpret gaps, patterns and trends, assess threat, risk and harm and make recommendations in support of decision making, prioritisation and resource allocation in line with the National Intelligence Model.
  • Achieve competence against the relevant professional standards for this function to achieve IPP accreditation and registration. Maintenance of this accreditation requires the demonstration of continued competence against professional standards, as well as evidence of CPD, in line with the College’s Model.
  • Give structured and detailed written and/or verbal briefings and presentations to police officers, support staff and other external partners to provide a clear and concise evidence based understanding of the subject matter, including providing advice and guidance and making recommendations to drive delivery of law enforcement.

Requirements

  • Have a proven analytical background from law enforcement or suitable transferable analytical experience.
  • Collect, evaluate and analyse data from various sources, with a view to identify offenders, victims, hotspot locations, crime patterns and crime series.

  • Strong numeracy and research skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills

This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK. Also, due to this role requiring MV/SC level vetting, you need to have continuously resided in the UK for the last 5 years. This residency needs to be in the immediate 5 years prior to this application. If you do not meet this requirement, you are not eligable to apply for the role, due to nature of the vetting checks needed.
