Applications are invited from substantive external Inspectors or Detective Inspectors, or external and internal Sergeants or Detective Sergeants seeking promotion, for several key leadership roles within North Yorkshire Police.

As an Inspector you will:

 

  • Lead and manage teams to deliver professional, ethical policing, ensuring compliance with legal standards whilst protecting the public.
  • Plan, prioritise and deploy resources effectively, balancing competing demands to deliver operational and investigative outcomes.
  • Identify, assess and manage risk in line with national guidance, ensuring safety of officers, staff and the public.
  • Build strong partnerships and engage stakeholders, working collaboratively to prevent crime and address vulnerability.
  • Drive performance and continuous improvement, using data, evaluation and evidence-based approaches to enhance effectiveness.
  • Develop and support people, promoting wellbeing, inclusion, high performance and continuous professional development within teams.

Eligibility to apply on promotion- For those applicants who are applying under the National Police Promotion Framework (NPPF) please ensure you meet the requirements set out in the College of Policing eligibility criteria. You must also have a valid NPPF Inspectors examination pass, within 5 years of the exam date. Further details on the criteria can be found on page 13 here.

For applicants who are applying for promotion under OSPRE, you must have a valid Part 1 and Part 2 at the appropriate level.

We are also accepting applications from substantive Inspectors or Detective Inspectors on transfer into North Yorkshire for those who have previously achieved NPPF step 4 or have previously qualified under OSPRE.

Line Manager and Senior Team (SMT) promotion support- To apply on promotion you must have the support of your Senior Management Team (SMT) via your Line Manager. The form can be found here and will need uploading as part of the application process, along with your PDR.

Line Manager application support (substantive transfer)- To apply to transfer to North Yorkshire on substantive transfer, you will need the support of your Line Manager. The form can be found here and will need uploading as part of the application process, along with your PDR.

Throughout the entire process candidates will be assessed against the 2024 Competency and Values Framework (CVF) at Level 2: Supervisor/middle manager- Competency and values framework (CVF) | College of Policing.
