Information and Disclosure Researcher - Hybrid working

We have exciting opportunities for an Information and Disclosure Researcher to join our Legal and Compliance team at Police Headquarters in Portishead.

You will be joining a small but specialist team that works together to govern police information which ultimately increases the Constabulary’s compliance with legislation requirements.

You will undertake research and retrieve data from all police systems in response to statutory or court ordered disclosure of information requests.  You will also monitor the review, retention and deletion of data in line with local and national policies. We can provide any training required so not only is this a role where you can bring and use your existing skills, it is one that you can grow into learning lots of new ones along the way. We are also looking for someone who has the right enthusiasm and drive to want to make a difference and improve our service.   

This role will be dedicated to one of the teams within Legal and Compliance Services Directorate: Family Court Disclosure, Records Management, Freedom of Information or Data Protection.  However, there will be opportunities to work in any of the teams within the Directorate to further your CPD and training and support will be provided. 

In this role your Main Responsibilities will include:  

  • Monitoring mailboxes, actioning accordingly and where appropriate inputting data into a case management system
  • Working to Authorised Practice Protocol, under a Court Order in respect of proceedings in the Family Court, Disclosure of Information between Family and Criminal Agencies and Jurisdictions: 2024 Protocol, Management of Police Information, Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, Data Protection Legislation or the Home Office 2017 Review of Use and Retention of Custody Images
  • Prioritising your workload to ensure that responses are carried out within the relevant timeframe
  • To research, interrogate, review, collate and weed information from force systems including legacy systems 
  • Providing advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders when required
  • Undertaking relevant training and to maintain Continued Professional Development

Skills and Experience required:

  • An understanding and knowledge of:  The Data Protection Act 2018, the UK GDPR and the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Human Rights Act 1998 and Management of Police Information 
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work in an organised manner
  • Ability to gather and organise and present information in a logical manner
  • Good IT skills including experience of using Microsoft office
  • Experience of working as part of a team 

Additional Information: 

This is a blended role and therefore the opportunity to work from home is available, however the expectation is that you attend Portishead HQ as and when required. Initial training will be office based and following completion of training you will attend the office at least once a week for meetings with colleagues, teams from other departments, Constabularies and agencies.
