The Role & Key Responsibilities

THIS POST IS A FIXED TERM CONTRACT FOR MATERNITY COVER STARTING IN OCTOBER/NOVEMBER.

The supervisor position for the Information Access Team will focus on promoting and managing activities relating to the Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act and other disclosure matters within Surrey Police. You will supervise a team of decision makers and disclosure officers, answering their queries and providing them with additional training. You will aid decision makers in determining disclosure, or not, according to the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Legislation and other disclosure matters, through analysing and evaluating information received from sources across Surrey Police, considering public interest where appropriate and ensure that suitable responses are provided to requests on any subject from all customers, whether staff, public, ex-staff or press etc. You will also be responsible for providing guidance, advice and information to senior staff, police officers, police staff and members of the public on matters relating to Freedom of Information and related legislation.

You will also be responsible for engagement with the National Police Crime Commission (NPCC) Freedom of Information Team and other Forces to ensure cross-border issues are acted upon effectively, and to share knowledge, guidance and decision-making as well as, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on interpretation of Freedom of Information and Data Protection Subject Access requests on behalf of the Force, issuing instructions and notices as appropriate. You will also be responsible for the generation of statistical performance data.

Skills & Experience
  • Education to ‘A’ level or equivalent
  • Previous experience of knowledge of working with Freedom of Information Act or Data Protection Act is desirable, but training will be provided.
  • Previous experience of supervisory capabilities.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills; good written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to interact with and influence staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve team, personal and developmental objectives.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritising workload and issues and to manage time effectively, meet tight deadlines, take control and respond flexibly to rapidly changing demands.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of information and data handled especially in relation to sensitive material.
