About the role

Are you an experienced ICT professional with a passion for delivering exceptional user support and driving system optimisation? We are looking for a highly skilled ICT Applications Support Specialist to join our Core ICT Services Team and play a key role in supporting, developing, and enhancing the Force’s mission‑critical applications.

In this varied and dynamic role, you will provide specialist technical and functional support, advise users, resolve incidents, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our Core ICT systems.


Key Responsibilities

System Administration & Configuration

  • Design and configure front-end functionality, user accounts, security profiles, access controls, and reporting tools.
  • Administer and optimise the Force’s Core ICT systems to ensure users can work effectively and efficiently.

Incident & Request Management

  • Provide timely, professional support to resolve incidents and problems, minimising disruption to operational teams.
  • Log, monitor, and report all support activities to maintain high service standards.
  • Process user requests in accordance with established procedures.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong working relationships with system owners, departments, project teams, third‑party suppliers, and partner Forces.
  • Support the development of systems that align with organisational priorities and strategic objectives.

Knowledge Management & User Guidance

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of system administration processes.
  • Create clear, accessible user guidance to improve system adoption and encourage self‑service.

Systems Monitoring & Interface Management

  • Monitor daily data interfaces and investigate issues promptly.
  • Advise users and ICT colleagues on information security and data protection considerations relating to data transfers.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Plan and conduct rigorous testing of new system functionality, patches, upgrades, and fixes.
  • Ensure developments meet operational needs and deliver reliable, accurate performance.

Continuous Improvement & Professional Standards

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and developments in the ICT landscape.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements and standards for information management, data security, and the College of Policing’s APP guidance.

Knowledge & Experience

We are looking for a candidate with:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • HND (or equivalent) in Computer Studies or a closely related field, or substantial practical experience in a similar ICT support role within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong understanding of ICT applications, including ERP systems, Duty Management Systems (DMS), productivity tools (M365), and specialist operational applications.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, M365, and service management tools.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Logical and analytical approach to diagnosing faults.
  • Confident communicator (written and verbal) able to engage effectively with users at all levels.
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and recommend functional or technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of audit techniques, information handling, legislation, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, customer‑focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and maintain accurate records.

Significant Experience In

  • Supporting and coordinating activities for business‑critical systems.
  • Working with systems that interface with multiple modules or other applications.
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Operating within formal change management processes.
  • Applying ITIL principles in day‑to‑day work.
