Humberside Police are looking for dedicated individuals to join as a Special Constable in our Rural Task Force Unit. This is your chance to make a real difference for our rural communities by volunteering your time in a meaningful and impactful way.
The Rural Task Force primarily focus on building relationships with farmers, businesses and remote communities to increase public confidence and reduce demand. You will be highly visible working with all partners such as FarmWatch, Voluntary Sector, NFU and key businesses.
You will focus on all rural crime such as, Animal Thefts, Plant Thefts, Arsons and Burglary to develop expertise; in addition, the team will target organised crime groups operating within the rural communities and work in collaboration with partner and neighbouring forces. You will deliver an enhanced service to these communities with specific communications and engagement relevant to the communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Crime Prevention advice and face to face interaction with Rural Community members including farmers, landowners and gamekeepers.
- Assist with multi-agency operations with organisations such as RSPCA, Farmwatch, National Wildlife Crime Unit and cross border forces.
- Provide support with pro-active operations targeting hot spot areas for Rural Theft, Rural Criminal Damage and poaching/wildlife offences.
- Provide support with re-active crime prevention measures in line with high value property marking and registering initiatives.
- Act as a point of contact for advice for all staff within the Force regarding Animal Welfare Act, Wildlife and Heritage Crime and offences committed in relation to them.
- Provides rural crime prevention advice and supports vulnerable/repeat victims of rural crime.
- Co-ordinates response to key local and national wildlife, rural and heritage crime operations such as Op Galileo/Zodiac, Op Owl, Op Seabird, Op Traverse.
Location
Primarily, we are looking for Special Constables to join our Brigg and Driffield teams however there may be opportunities within other parts of the Humberside Area.
Requirements to join as a Rural Task Force Special Constable
- Current serving Special Constable with Independent Patrol Status.
- MUST have completed minimum hours each year of service.
- Be willing to attend any relevant courses needed for the role i.e Wildlife Courses.
- Desirable Requirements: Drones are becoming an invaluable asset to rural policing to support and keep communities safe. If you have any experience operating drones, please contact recruiting@humberside.police.uk and we will note your records accordingly.

Eligibility Criteria
- Be 17 years of age or over to apply and 18 years of age by the time of appointment. There is no upper age limit for applying for Humberside Police.
- Maintain a good level of physical fitness to pass the fitness test and also be able to pass the medical examination.
- Comply with our tattoo policy. Please submit clear close-up photos of all tattoos along with descriptions and meanings.
- Applicants must have resided in the UK for three continuous years immediately prior to application. Any period of travel needs to be less than one year.
- You must hold unrestricted Right to Work in the UK to apply. Please submit this alongside your application.

Recruitment Process
Please note your application may be shortlisted before the closing date. Applicants who are successfully shortlisted will be invited to a competency-based interview.
Those successful at interview will be required to undergo the following checks before appointment:
- Vetting
- In Force Occupational Health Medical
- References, including absences
- Biometric Testing – Fingerprints and DNA
- Substance Misuse
- Review of Tattoos
- Fitness Test – 5.4 bleep test.
