Hours: 37 Hours Per Week (Full-Time) Monday to Friday
Flexibility Requirement: Candidates must be open to flexible daily working hours to meet the operational needs of the department. This may include adjusting start and finish times, providing cover during peak periods, or supporting colleagues during absences. Flexibility is essential to ensure consistent service delivery and effective team collaboration.

Overall, Purpose of the role: This is a unique and exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role within a dynamic and forward-thinking Legal Services Department supporting both South Yorkshire and Humberside Police.
Working in close partnership with the Head of Legal Services and the wider Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will be at the heart of delivering a high-quality, responsive and modern legal service that underpins decision-making across both organisations. You will support senior leadership, officers and staff by ensuring that Legal Services operates efficiently, professionally and with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
The Practice Manager will lead and coordinate a broad portfolio of administrative, financial and operational functions, ensuring the smooth and effective running of the department. Beyond this, the role is instrumental in driving innovation, embracing new technologies and improving systems and processes to meet the evolving demands of policing.

You will build strong, collaborative relationships across both forces and with external partners, helping to shape how Legal Services delivers now and in the future.
The successful applicant will play a key role in shaping and developing the team, ensuring we are well-equipped to meet future challenges. Key Responsibilities:
- To provide, manage and implement the full range of administrative support to the collaborative Legal Service Department including line management of administration staff and all related functions including daily tasking and allocation of work, ensuring resilience within.
- Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for Legal Services including supporting the Head of Legal Services and SLT in leading the Department and be accountable for the service to the respective Chief Constables of Humberside and South Yorkshire, providing advice on strategic direction to SLT and to maintain and co-ordinate a robust performance management system that measures and demonstrates outputs and outcomes and maintaining central record of actions and decisions for audit purposes. Prepare performance reports on Legal Services to the DCCs, responsible for maintaining and reporting and drafting and presenting Chief Officer papers.
- To produce management reports relating to the financial, personnel and work volumes of the Department as required that support the management of the Department, the allocation of work and accountability to the Forces and monitoring and maintaining the case management system (CMS), produce reports and analyse statistical data on workloads, inactivity on files, time etc and present this information to SLT to aid senior management decision making and management. Maintain central record of actions.
- Provide support to all Line Managers and staff in relation to HR, file reviews and other general matters, managing on all related HR tasks involving recruitment including shortlisting, panel member for all interviewed candidates, attending Careers events, dealing with all Inductions and related matters for new recruits, attend meetings with HR and colleagues to discuss any issues and seek support, attend and chair Line Manager meetings including monitoring and reviewing various data and providing advice and instruction on all file management, file reviews, PDRs, open matters, inactivity on files, training, complaint handling etc. Provide training to the service on all admin procedures etc. Attend Police Staff Deployment Board to seek authoristion to recruit. Maintain and monitor training records and submit training bids to both Forces. Manage the online law library.
- Be the point of contact within Legal Services for any issue relating to the case management system with a view to resolving, liaising with ISD and escalating issues, attend monthly meeting with the SLT for ISD discussing issues with the case management system, connectivity and hardware to maintain an excellent working relationship with ISD to aid quicker resolutions to any issues raised significantly reducing downtime for the service.
- Attend meetings with the Insurance Managers for the Forces dealing with the in house handling claim matters and providing up to date data on open claims, reserves etc, Attend Litigation meetings including monitoring and reviewing procedures and workflows, training, monitor reserve figures etc., produce monthly reporting statistics for each Force finance teams and Force Insurers on open claims, reserve figures, provisions and contingent liabilities as part of the IHH handling agreement and report to JIAC in South Yorkshire on ex-gratia payments for all departments and Districts

- Significant experience of working in a Legal Department or similar professional environment.
- Understanding of the legal processes in which the combined unit operates; professional requirements and the good practice of lawyers
- Knowledge of case management systems and Financial / insurance control systems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to deal with all ranks of officer, support staff and external agencies.
- Tact and diplomacy.
- Budget control, service planning, performance management and project management within a large organisation.
- Organisational skills with the ability to allocate resources, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Experience of working in a confidential environment.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
- Experience of using computers to input, amend and extract information.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Have access to a vehicle and able to travel the force area.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
