Role: POLIT – Criminal Justice Disclosure Officer (Police Online Investigation Team)

Department: SPEC – Specialist

Scale: SC5

Salary: £30,333 - £32,613

Location: Melton 2 (The post holder must have access to a vehicle and able to travel the force area)

Hours: 37 Hours Per Week (Full-time) Monday to Friday

Flexibility Requirement: Candidates must be open to flexible daily working hours to meet the operational needs of the department. This may include adjusting start and finish times, providing cover during peak periods, or supporting colleagues during absences. Flexibility is essential to ensure consistent service delivery and effective team collaboration.

Contract: Permanent

Overall Purpose of the role: To review/prepare pre and post charge files for both content and quality by preparing the files to National File Standards, ensuring evidential quality and relevant documentation is correct

 

 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and review content of all prosecution files in relation to Magistrates and Crown Court cases by checking the content and quality, ensuring that the files contain all the relevant material whilst identifying any which is missing, and taking the required steps to obtain it.
  • Manage workloads in relation to legislative deadlines, inputting and updating relevant systems. Monitor timeliness of the submission and progression of case files within nationally and locally agreed timescales.
  • Undertake disclosure tests (including re-assessment where appropriate) to ensure that all material is prepared for disclosure, ensuring correct reporting processes are followed, and that they are edited where needed, for disclosure to the defence to support the full and effective disclosure of evidence for an investigation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive disclosure schedules relating to all relevant unused material gathered during an investigation to ensure that they comply with applicable disclosure legislation and national guidance.
  • Undertake a range of processes as defined by legislation and local force policy, ensuring adherence to set timescales whilst providing an effective service on behalf of the force.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external departments including Divisional and Force Intelligence Bureau (DIB/FIB), CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) and representatives from the HMCTS (His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service).

 

  • Review remand files in relation to urgent and overnight charges in line with PACE custody time limits.

What the role requires:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Educated to a minimum of Level 4 or equivalent, or significant experience in a similar role.
  • Must have an awareness of the CPIA (Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act) and PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act).
  • Has access to a vehicle and able to travel the force area
  • Able to prepare well balanced reports in a concise, logical and timely manner.
  • Experience of working in a confidential environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
  • Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Have access to a vehicle and able to travel the force area.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
