Hours: 37 Hours Per Week (Full-time) Monday to Friday

Flexibility Requirement: Candidates must be open to flexible daily working hours to meet the operational needs of the department. This may include adjusting start and finish times, providing cover during peak periods, or supporting colleagues during absences. Flexibility is essential to ensure consistent service delivery and effective team collaboration.

Overall Purpose of the role: To support the Quality Management Team (QMT) in ensuring all work conducted in the Digital Forensic Unit (DFU) and Humberside Police is in accordance with the requirements of International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO), the Forensic Science Regulator’s (FSR) codes, International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC) and the expectations of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

To conduct comprehensive audits of all digital forensic activities performed in Humberside Police, identifying opportunities for learning and continuous improvement in order to fully represent the best interests of the Criminal Justice System and the public.

 The post holder will come into contact with images of a graphic and disturbing nature.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining, administrating and upholding the integrity of the QMS and Case Management System (CMS) so they are compliant with the most current ISO and FSR standards in order to progress the interests of the Criminal Justice System.
  • Assist in implementing the annual auditing schedule designated by the QMT on all forensic activities across the Force, to ensure expected standards and process are adhered to.
  • Perform audits assigned by the QMT to confirm compliance, identify improvements, or identify non-conformances in relation to quality practices.
  • Produce well-structured and detailed audit reports, providing clear recommendations for consideration with rationale. Proactively and reactively identify good practice and opportunities for learning and continuous improvement.  
  • Engage with practitioners to understand working methods and where required, provide constructive feedback and guidance to improve performance, escalating any issues to the QMT.
  • Identifying emerging issues and trends to be assimilated, integrated and introduced within the department, and undertake projects directed by the QMT which could impact on the service offered.
  • Support internal and external colleagues in understanding their responsibilities in respect of ISO, FSR and the requirements of them. Assist in providing quality awareness training and ensure that all staff are kept up to date regarding procedural changes. Where required, support newly trained auditors during their training period.
  • Actively participate in and help drive the ongoing departmental and Force development programme. The role will develop continually as our accreditation status progresses, and the full extent of the departmental expansion evolves.

What the role requires:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Must be willing to complete ongoing competency exercises in line with ISO 17025:2017 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice.
  • Requirement to participate in regular internal counselling sessions. Although you will not be regularly exposed to graphic material in this specific role, this kind of work is routinely undertaken in the department.
  • Will have previously worked in an IT related field or have a demonstrable knowledge in the related fields of programming, networks, server/storage, systems admin or similar.
  • Keep abreast of all new doctrine, legislation and recognised best practice in the allocated area of responsibility. Knowledge and understanding of quality standards and the application of quality assurance procedures and systems.
  • Is sensitive to the wishes and views of others and is able to display tact and diplomacy.
  • Has the ability to inspire confidence and respect.
  • Has access to a vehicle and able to travel the force area
  • Able to prepare well balanced reports in a concise, logical and timely manner.
  • Experience of working in a confidential environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
  • Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Have access to a vehicle and able to travel the force area.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
