Humberside Police is looking for a confident and experienced communicator to join the Corporate Communications Team.
As a Corporate Communications Officer, your work will be varied and rewarding. You will work closely with local, regional and national media daily reactively and proactively develop creative and engaging content to tell the public about the work of the force and to help prevent and detect crime. Your contribution will support the force mission of being victim focused, community focused and workforce focused.
You will provide guidance and advice to officers and staff during police operations and critical incidents, organise press conferences and prepare briefing documents to provide communications support and build public confidence.
You will also work with our officers and staff, finding good news across the force and publishing these in a variety of different ways, including the force’s own channels, traditional media and social media.
We are looking for an individual with a strong sense of public service, and the right skills and experience to hit the ground running. You should enjoy working as part of a team but be motivated to work independently and think on your feet. You will have excellent writing and communications skills, with the ability to make effective decisions and to plan and prioritise to meet deadlines. You will have excellent verbal and written skills and deal effectively with external agencies and established partnerships.
The role sits within the Corporate Communications Team, based at our Headquarters in Hull.
You must have a degree or relevant qualification in Journalism, Media or Communications, or have a minimum of three years’ experience working in a fast paced press office, communications environment or newsroom.

Key Responsibilities:
- To ensure that all written and visual material is legally sound, adheres to Corporate Communications style guide, is appropriate for release and is issued in a timely fashion, taking the deadlines of media outlets into consideration.
- To source positive news that reflects the force achieving its strategic aims for release internally, to the wider public and media in accordance with release and sign-off protocols.
- To ensure that requests for information and visuals from the media are assessed and reviewed in line with relevant legislation before they are acted on.
- To use initiative when responding to media enquiries and in giving advice on media issues to senior officers and staff.
- Build positive working relationships with members of the media, communications colleagues at partner agencies and wider stakeholders.
- Arranges press conferences, interviews and photo opportunities for news and features and internal purposes.
- The post holder will make decisions on the appropriateness of information and visuals released to the media.

What the role requires:
- Educated to degree level in a Journalism/Media/Communications related subject OR has previous experience of no less than three years in a communications or journalism role.
- Experience of working in a customer orientated field
- Experience of writing articles/press releases and creating content
- Proven experience of planning and implementing media and social media campaigns
- Has the ability to present information to a diverse audience.
- Excellent communication skills
- Computer literacy/keyboard skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
- Hold a full UK driving licence
