Job Title: HOLMES Incident Manager
Salary: The starting salary is £45,207.75, which includes allowances totalling £3,009 and a 12.5% shift allowance.
The salary is broken down as £37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141. Plus, a 12.5% shift allowance, location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

The HOLMES Support team plays a critical role in supporting some of the Metropolitan Police Service's most complex, high-profile and sensitive investigations. As HOLMES Cloud continues to evolve with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and innovative capabilities, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced HOLMES indexer or Reader Receiver to join our team based at Lewisham.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of investigative technology, supporting a growing number of users across the MPS and helping to shape how digital investigation tools are used within major crime, and complex investigations.
As HOLMES Cloud continues to evolve, including the introduction of AI-enabled capabilities, this role offers the opportunity to support investigators in making effective use of emerging technology to manage increasing volumes of investigative material and digital evidence. You will play an important role in supporting users through change, promoting best practice and helping realise the benefits of new functionality across the MPS.
No two days are the same. From supporting major investigations and public appeals, to introducing new HOLMES functionality and advising users, this role offers a unique opportunity to combine operational policing knowledge, problem-solving and technology.
As a HOLMES Incident Manager, your Key Responsibilities will be:
- Act as a trusted expert and first point of contact for HOLMES users across the MPS, helping investigators maximise the benefits of HOLMES Cloud and emerging AI-supported capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with Metropolitan Police Service HOLMES policy and national guidance, including MIRSAP.
- Support the adoption of new HOLMES Cloud functionality, including AI-enabled capabilities, providing guidance, training and assurance to users as new features are introduced.
- Support and deliver the implementation of National HOLMES upgrades, promoting innovation and best practice in the use of the application.
- Support the creation and management of HOLMES incidents and Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) appeals on behalf of Senior Investigating Officers, ensuring investigations are established efficiently and in accordance with national standards.
- Ensure that the application is used in accordance with L&D training standards, MPS policy, national guidance and SIO policy, providing advice and practical demonstrations of best practice where required.
- Authorise user access to live HOLMES incidents in accordance with training accreditation and operational requirements.
- Work with the Office Manager to create and maintain incident-specific Custom Fields, providing expert advice on their implementation and use.
- Conduct regular reviews of HOLMES incidents and present findings, recommendations and opportunities for improvement to SIOs and MIR Office Managers.
- Review HOLMES audit logs to identify and escalate potential security breaches or inappropriate system use.
- Maintain close liaison with the HOLMES Support Manager on operational, technical and policy-related matters.
- Advise SIOs on appropriate retention periods and the archiving of HOLMES incidents.
- Complete Casualty Bureau training and support Casualty Bureau activations at Hendon, assisting Casualty Bureau Coordinators when required.
- Provide advice and support in the activation and management of the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP), including public appeals and Amber Alerts (formerly Child Rescue Alerts).
- Represent the MPS at National HOLMES meetings when required, including deputising for the HOLMES Support Manager.
- Attend MPS sites across London to support HOLMES colleagues, investigations and operational requirements.
- Undertake further HOLMES training and development to become fully conversant in all HOLMES roles and functionalities.
