About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join the A&E's Historical Evidence Review Team to support the departments RRD element of reviewing all historic archives, exhibits and associated policing and non-policing information assets.

This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in safeguarding the Force's information and assets while ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, national guidance and Force policy. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the lawful retention, review, disposal and preservation of records and assets, helping to reduce legal and reputational risk while supporting operational policing and organisational effectiveness.

The role combines strategic governance, information management and asset stewardship, offering the opportunity to influence Force-wide practices and contribute directly to organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

As the Review, Retention and Disposal officer, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, national standards and Force policies relating to information and asset management.
  • Review, retention, disposal and preservation of records and exhibits, ensuring that all decisions are lawful, auditable and risk-based.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on retention schedules, disposal requirements, archives management and legislative compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate legal, operational and reputational risks associated with the management of historic records and assets.
  • Support operational policing by ensuring that information and exhibits are managed effectively throughout their lifecycle.
  • Maximise the value of retained and surplus assets through appropriate sales, reuse and community donation initiatives.
  • Contribute to income generation opportunities while promoting sustainability, community engagement and social value.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal departments, external partners and regulatory bodies to ensure best practice and continuous improvement.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in information governance, archives management, records management, exhibit management or a related discipline.
  • A strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements relating to information management, data retention and disposal.
  • Experience of developing and implementing governance processes, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk and apply legislation appropriately.
  • Experience of managing complex information or asset review programmes.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, problem solving and organisational change.
  • The ability to balance compliance requirements with operational needs and strategic objectives.
