Job Title: Head of Professionalism Strategy and Delivery - Band A

Salary: The starting salary is £83,589, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.

The salary is broken down as £80,580 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £ 93,071. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Westminster, New Scotland Yard and other locations across the Met with a Professionalism presence


Job description:

Help shape one of the most important reform missions in UK policing. As Head of Strategy & Delivery for the Met’s Professionalism Business Group, you will lead the insight and planning functions that drive improvements in integrity, conduct, cultural reform and high professional standards across the organisation.

This is a high impact leadership role - you will lead engagement on key reform initiatives and ensure the business group is positioned to meet its most complex operational and strategic challenges.

Working to the Deputy Director of Professionalism, Governance and Performance, you will join the Met’s Professionalism Strategy, Policy, and Performance Unit, a rapidly growing capability that blends existing and new teams into a cohesive, high performing unit.

You will translate strategic priorities into clear plans, support high‑quality decision making and ensure robust oversight of delivery, risk and performance. You will drive coherence across planning, policy change, governance and analytics, ensuring leaders have the right information to prioritise, intervene early and achieve impact.

This is a varied role for someone who can rapidly grasp issues, build trusted relationships internally and externally, and lead through ambiguity.

The Met’s Professionalism Strategy, Policy and Performance Unit has been established to support the Professionalism Chief Officer Group deliver integrity, conduct and cultural reform and drive high professional standards across the organisation, ultimately answering to Assistant Commissioner Rachel Williams. The team are responsible for driving a range of strategic workstreams and projects that support the functioning of a large operational Business Group. Your work will ensure Professionalism delivers in alignment with organisational priorities and the Met’s mission to deliver More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Professionalism strategic and policy planning and development cycle, ensuring priorities are clear, measurable and aligned to wider MPS objectives.
  • Translate strategic and policy ambitions into plans with defined outcomes, milestones and accountability.
  • Design and operate governance mechanisms that support effective decision‑making and transparent oversight.
  • Run performance and risk processes, producing high‑quality analysis, dashboards and insight to inform leadership decisions.
  • Identify delivery risks and opportunities, recommending timely corrective actions.
  • Enable effective data, analytics and reporting mechanisms to strengthen evidence‑based planning and prioritisation.
  • Oversee the production of high‑quality strategic and policy briefings, board papers and strategic documentation for executive leaders and external scrutiny bodies.
  • Lead and develop a multi‑disciplinary team.

Line Management

  • Direct line management of Band B leads
  • Indirect leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams across Professionalism.
