The principal responsibility of the Geographic News Officer is to to identify specific local issues (internal and external) and take lead responsibility in the design and implementation of bespoke communications strategies, products and activities through research and liaison with local colleagues, in response to help reduce the fear of crime, increase accessibility to, and understanding of, policing services.
In particular to:
- To develop and distribute corporate communications material and key messages – both internal and external – within the geographic area and to the local population.
- Provide content for local internal communications vehicles (intranet, etc.) and ensure all material used in these mechanisms complies with policy, frameworks and the Force’s corporate image strategy.
- Work with geographic leaders to assist them in their communication with staff, ensuring they are in line with corporate messages.
- Identify opportunities to generate positive publicity for local operations, performance and initiatives via the media, the website and other traditional and new technology mechanisms in liaison with colleagues in external communications.
- Assist in the effective management of local events to enhance public engagement with, and support for, the police.
